Now the festive period is upon us, how do we apply the Betari’s Box model to keep us calm and in control.
Does the thought of Christmas fill you with anxiety? Are you worried about the cost of getting presents for everyone, making time to do the Christmas shop, and fitting everything else in?
You may be worried about seeing family members you would rather not choose to be around.
It can feel overwhelming at times right!
You are not on your own.
Many people feel exactly the same and consuming yourself with worry can stop you from enjoying life and fully living in the present.
But what if there was a different way!
You’re probably saying to yourself, “this may work for others but not for me”, but what if it could!
We all make choices about our own attitudes and behaviours and when you have a conscious awareness of how our own attitudes impact the others around you, whether this is good or bad, we can then choose how we want this to look.
What will all the stress and worry achieve? Is it really worth it?
What if we apply the Betari’s Box.
The Betari’s Box is a mental model that demonstrates how your own attitudes affect the way other people that are around you responds to you.
If you have a positive attitude towards them, this will cause them to change their behaviour towards you.
You cannot do this until you work on yourself to create a more positive mindset.
Can you ask yourself these questions:
What are the positives of the Christmas period? Maybe it’s time off of work, seeing children’s faces, the house looking pretty, or eating more of your favourite foods.
Can you practice gratitude? By doing this regularly, saying three things either out loud or in your head every hour, to begin with, research tells us this exercises our brain to think more positively and creates new neuro pathways in our brain, helping us to achieve a more positive perspective.
Yes! A more positive you! And that is what we all want for ourselves.
I have found the following YouTube clips really useful about this topic:
TedxTalks Lara Boyd – After watching this, your brain will not be the same
When you shift to this way of thinking, it will show up in your outward behaviour and you will be more positive with the people around you.
This will then in turn make the people around you behave in a more positive way towards you.
So that really annoying uncle may still choose to be pessimistic, however, you have a choice of how you respond back. You don’t need to get caught up in a negative cycle and respond back in a negative way. You can choose to limit your time around people who are no good for your soul and own mental well-being.
They don’t need to drag you down!
So, grab your Christmas hat, crackers & tinsel, and start your Christmas celebrations with a more positive new you!
